They really should of had a lot of these major conveniences around back in Alpha... I'm sure the search commands will return though. In general, the entire search engine is probably still in the works. They still have to set it up for market wards, party hunting (which they plan to allow cross zone invites) and all the other wonderful parts of search.

FFXI: Varizen of Leviathan [WAR and SCH 80, SMN 75, Hume Male]
FFXIV: Lusavari Rosenrot of Jecht [Marauder and Weaver, Hellsguard]

Rosenrot is German for Rose Red, and the "R's" are pronounced more like "W's." So's ya know.

We'll most likely see it soon. The search engine is going to be more advanced then the one in FFXI. Plus there is a somewhat working version of it when looking for party members.

This was an awesome article, Crimson Darke. Hope you don't mind that I incorporated some of your commands into the front page article.

Don't slip with tea! It's hot.

I do feel the inclusion of all these commands will indefinitely help with actual parties as a lot more people will easily understand how easy it is to now interact. I mean sure there will be leves and such to level up on, but they also want party play. So I wouldn't count out old school exp parties.

Also, by all means Aspect, use what ya want. Having a good idea of basic commands is great for any newcomers. The front page main posts is fine. A lot of people miss it otherwise. I'm sure we will be seeing even more commands as the placeholders become live.

Just a quick notice, compared to FFXI you don't necessarily need delays between attack executions in a macro to make them all fire off. The second one will queue up, the third (and so on), I don't know for sure.

Though that may be true, there will be times where you may decide not to do that with your macros though (assuming macros will begin to work as they should).

Take a Gladiator for Example, there will be times where you will want to raise your shield, but if you just fire off actions you may miss a good chance and now are waiting to get stamina back so you may do that. Therefore you will get hit harder and waste the healer's mp.

Still, for others such as strictly melee it should work just fine and have it a bit like FFXI and maybe perhaps help with chatting. I had a problem during leves being able to talk, just because I had to keep constantly hitting an attack. Though may not end up having those exp parties...if we do, I kinda would like another way in which I would be able to chat with others and still be able to perform at optimal levels.

One thing that I was not able to try, but I am curious if anyone else did was that option where you would have someone start the attack and perform skillchains or whatever they want to call it in this game. Was anyone able to do this properly?

Well, if you are queueing abilities in a macro in the first place, you should be very aware of the stamina cost, simply stating that a delay is not required for the macro to work properly.

True, but not necessarily something some players will do unfortunately.

I'm hoping the whole delay thing is fixed, cause even though some had their macros working, I never was able to have mine work properly. For example just switching jobs and setting the action bar. It would place the first action go over the next two and do the fourth one. Makes me wonder if being able to have a delay would have helped.

I never had that problem the only things I had problems with was switching to a new job if you had abilities on the old job that could carry over they would so not all the abilities on the new job would equip cause of lack of action points.

Besides that would be nice if you could make macro's longer than 10lines or w/e the limit is it scrolls down but everything you type beyond that gets erased when you save the macro.

I'm guessing it's similar to <call> in FFXI.

It was great to spam when someone was afk =/

I'm sure it was originally meant to be a signal for leaders to move to the next step of certain plans in a fight... FFXI really lacked a lot of tactical bits sometimes though.

Yeah, our parties typically used the Calls as way to wake up those who fells asleep at the keyboard on those late night missions. granted it didn't always work...

They could always be used before starting whatever the skillchains are now called. That way they know that some stamina will be used...if each person uses stamina...I don't even know really how the whole thing works.

You talkin about Regiments? I've only done 1 successful one in Alpha. The way it works is you pick 1 ability off your list of things on the action bar. You can see the ability each person picks on a menu. Anyway, Once everyone participating has picked their ability, 1 of those people chooses the option to start it, and either everyone goes at once or everyone goes in the order picked, but at the end of the whole chain, there's a special effect. Using it in Beta has been neigh impossible since monsters are so squishy, by the time even 2 duoers have TP, the thing is pretty much dead.

I didn't get a chance to play around with the macros much in beta 3, can anyone clarify how targeting works? I played XI so it looks a little familiar, but what's <st>? Also, no quick targeting of individual party members?

The targeting in the closed beta was pretty horrible had to tab to everything should be better in open beta. Hoping they add the old FF11 F# targeting.

Also since this part got a slight update here is some manual update info on signals.

    Emotes and Signs
This feature allows players to use expressions, gestures, and signs to communicate with other players. The Emote & Signs menu is bound to the N key in the default keyboard setup, and can also be accessed by selecting the second icon from the right on the action bar.

Emotes and signs are broken down into: emotes, enemy signs, and ally signs.

    Emotes
Emotes are a collection of expressions and gestures that can be used to convey the emotional state of your character. The emote list can be accessed by selecting the Emote tab from the Emotes & Signs window.

    Enemy Signs
While in a party, players can express their various desires regarding monsters in the field. Players can suggest ways of attacking or slowing down specific enemies.
Enemy signs can only be used when you are participating in a levequest.

Selecting the Enemy Signs tab from the Emotes & Signs window will display the enemy signs list. Select the message you would like to convey to your party members while selecting a monster with your cursor and your enemy sign will be displayed over the monster's name.
Enemy signs can also be performed through text commands.

    Ally Signs
While in a party, players can express various desires to other members of the party. Players can suggest use of a Battle Regimen and agree with other members' suggestions.

Selecting the Ally Signs tab from the Emotes & Signs window will display the ally signs list. Select the message you would like to convey to your party members and your ally sign will be displayed over your name.

Ally signs can also be performed with the sign0 to sign7 text commands.

    Examine
Targeting another player character will cause Examine to appear in the Interactions menu. Select Examine, and that player character's equipment will be displayed.

/joy at them adding check equipment again.

I'm hoping Enemy Sign extends into quest fights if they have big battle BCNMs. It would be nice to have the party leader set up an order of targets and the game automatically jumps target to the next in line. Much the same, the ally bit can set up the top 8 people needing cures for fast targets (1 being the main Gladiator...)

As for checking, let's hope people get over their /check paranoia. Hopefully they turn off the check message.

I used <st> in XI. Think of it as select target. I will do a description of each

<st>: sub target. Useful to select a target whether NPC (friend or foe) or PC

<stnpc>: sub target. Useful to select a target NPC. In FFXI I would use this for adds. If I was a BLM/RDM I had my sleep spells and such using <stnpc>. Same as a PLD/WAR, I would have my voke on <stnpc> just in case I needed to use voke on one mob while fighting another.

<stpc> sub target. Useful to select a target PC. This I would use for spells such as cure. It would only target playable characters. In a party (since I use a gamepad) I only had to hit my Cure spell and press down on the D-Pad to target members from my party. It would also work in an alliance, but of course there were other ways. I wasn't a WHM, so this was good enough for me just to heal those that needed it and help me build enmity at the same time.

There is no way to quick target individual party members, but it is a placeholder command, so it will happen. This is what they had:

<p0> Party Member 0. Displays your character's name
<p1> Party Member 1. Displays name of first party member in list
<p2> Party Member 2. Displays name of second party member in list.
<p3> Party Member 3. Displays name of third party member in list.
<p4> Party Member 4. Displays name of fourth party member in list.
<p5> Party Member 5. Displays name of fifth party member in list.
<p6> Party Member 6. Displays name of sixth party member in list.
<p7> Party Member 7. Displays name of seventh party member in list.
<p8> Party Member 8. Displays name of eighth party member in list.
<p9> Party Member 9. Displays name of ninth party member in list.
<p10> Party Member 10. Displays name of tenth party member in list.
<p11> Party Member 11. Displays name of eleventh party member in list.
<p12> Party Member 12. Displays name of twelfth party member in list.
<p13> Party Member 13. Displays name of thirteenth party member in list.
<p14> Party Member 14. Displays name of fourteenth party member in list.

So even though it would display it, more than likely by using a macro you could use those to target or cast a spell on specific party members, just like in XI.
