I'm thinking of going with LL because with my limited playtime already, I'd like to have some sort of familiarity to it all, and I don't want to be part of the cluster**** that will be gridania.

Judging from this poll Ul'dah is going to be the most popular area lol. Since we can check out both area's in the open beta I'm going to do just that. I'm probably going to create my main character in Gridania since some friends talked about creating there but I'll create a another character in Ul'dah just to run around hear the music get a feel for the city then make my choice for retail.

Regardless LL is not an option until they add a option to turn pirate talk off...

I'm going to choose Gridania because I'm gearing up my character to be a heavy magic user at least at the start of the game. Being that the major guilds for magic at located in Gridania I just feel it's natural for me to be there. Plus I'm a big fan of the whole forested area. Though Ul'dah would be my second choice because I'm tired of seeing the same cs's from Limsa Lominsa. I've been seeing those cs's since alpha and although they are beautiful and very nice eye candy... they've gotten a bit crusty for me.

Gridania for Open Beta, and possibly Ul'dah of retail. I would like to see how the missions differ in each city. That was the fun part of FFXI, you could take different paths for missions ultimately ending up at the same place.

I was really looking forward to exploring Gridania at last, but then SE has to disappoint.

    Thumbs up

Decided to go with LL after all. The fishing sold me. Ill probably spend most of OB checking out Uldah and Gridania. Hopefully ill get their "Treasures of the Main" equivalent done. I have no doubt those area's will be breathtaking.

Now I get to be a pirate, and pirates are cool.

I'll be picking Ul'Dah in retail. Gridania really doesn't interest me and I'm playing through LL in the beta.

Grid or Limsa, I need to try and get a feel before release to what people are going to be picking overall, don't get me wrong I love gathering a few friends and scattering the team to every quest mob possible but it shouldn't have to be done to that degree to make sure you get your kills in the 30min time line, that or i may go to one of my little caves as soon as possible and grind mobs for the first day or two before starting levi's or wait until its quite at night...

Anyway going back to the topic, Personally I love the Grid's storyline and know the area well but Limsa apeals more to me... just the factors above that I think will change that final decision.

I thought the new cities were fun, but I definitely like LL more coz my computer can handle it in beta.

It's Ul'dah for me, for ONE reason...
It's a circle, and a small one at that.

Ever since playing to 12~ in Ul'dah, every time I try one of my other characters I just get frustrated.
Especially long term, I'm sure I'll only learn to appreciate the layout more over time.

ADD: yes, the desert is gorgeous.
    Killing the Gobbue is awesome.
The early missions are EASY (once you figure out the emote business... which isn't that rough.)
    - I played through the first Limsa mission, and that escort is a pain in the butthole. In Ul'dah you take the girl to the newb camp and you're -done-.
Ul'dah also seems.. on other boards at least.. the most popular choice, meaning if there are ever any weird city competitions like in XI U. has a good chance to sit on top a lot of the time. I always hated playing Bastok on XI, who was always #3 on my server. I could never get any cool items, and my TP options were GARBAGE. Obviously the benefits would be different in XIV, but I'd like to exploit them nonetheless^^
