Ok, so this is how I finally got my key

You start by going here: https://secure.square-enix.com/accou...&lng=en&rgn=na

Then Square Enix will send you an e-mail. Open it up and it will have your key. The link on the e-mail doesn't seem to work, so try this one to log in to the Square Enix Management: https://secure.square-enix.com/accou...n?cont=account

Log in and then follow the instructions on the e-mail. See you all in-game.

Thanks for trying but this link took me to the busy page, yet still!
    How utterly frustrating! D:

Update: Try two, and.. it worked, but I got a maintenance splash screen when I logged in. This is bad.

Update: Try three, tried to log in but got the busy splash again. Annoying, much? This is a better position than originally though, gladly.

Update: Try four, and.. EVERYTHING WORKS FINE! Might wanna update first post informing people that sometimes, about 75% chance it won't work but a little persistence will get you in. (:

That's all good but after all this the Beta Text site says 'The FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Site can only be accessed by those who have been granted Beta Test accounts.'
..after I log in.. and it takes me back to the login screen. Odd right?

    As of 6:49am pst.

Applications for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test have been temporarily suspended. Please wait until we are ready to accept new applications and then try again.
Sigh guess I will go to class and try again when I get home.

Still suspended as of 7:30 PDT. It'll probably be a few hours, at least.

The most stressing part for me is knowing this kind of situation does not happen in other beta tests. I beta tested warcraft, aion, vanguard, and ddo. Yes there are always beta bumps but the normal is to spam people already registered with keys. I just don't get the whole re register part. Even if you didn't make the selective betas they don't even really have to email. All they need to do is give you activation thru you S.E. registered account.

Hopefully they'll lift the suspension today. I'm sure they're all busy at SE making more beta keys.

It does too, don't use it as a signal, Aion was just a media beta (I can't speak to the others), UO, Tabula Rasa, WURM Online (technically it's an ongoing beta though, stable now, at first it wasn't), Mortal Online, Darkfall Online. All had there fair share of issues, all but the first were actual betas though, not just media.

The techs can run whatever sort of spam scenarios they want, until the real thing happens, they have no idea how the network can handle that kind of traffic. Hopefully at least they are learning from it.

I would love to see more of a shift to a decentralized server setup. UO started it with maintaining servers in various parts of the country (then eventually internationally) to help combat some of these issues. Granted, a main company site is one thing, but you could combine regional servers to handle Patching, Login, and Game. Instead, SE has everything in one basket (ok fine farm) so to speak and it simply is prone to bottlenecking (ok fine ganking).

However from reading the several messages about the situation (Who here thinks that the UPDATES are a FAR BETTER IMPROVEMENT?) not all of it is poor planning per se.

The Registration Site: Ok, SE BAD...should have done a few things (A. Emailed out codes to EXISTING beta members, B. Been clear about WHO needed to apply (First everyone, then all but prior betas, then everyone again, C. Plan for the bandwith...I wanna know who was handling projections and forecasts...cause I think there will be an opening >.>)

The SE Account Management Site: Again, could have avoided TONS of traffic if we could have PRE-registered our beta codes if they had emailed em earlier (The servers still wouldn't have been live so where is the harm?)

THe other issues like Character Creation, and various anomalies are not their fault...things break and code needs to be tweaked. Those types of crashes are fine for me. Gotta push a patch, great. Gotta take the server down, ok. We understand that happens. Emergency Maintenance is fine.

Sometimes I think they are their own worse enemy. Lets face it, the PRODUCT is something we want, we deal with all the other problems to get and enjoy it...and we still want it. That's a damn good product in my opinion. In reference, for the brief time I was able to be in this morning with Kyrie, she commented to me how beautiful the game looks (taking the ferry from LL to the mainland and subsequent running to Ul'Dah). I agree, this game is breathtaking. All the hatred, rage, etc doesn't help SE's image or the games image for sure, but having tasted the goods, I'm hooked now I am a firm believer that perhaps SE should have gone "outside" of their bubble for some help on handling NA relations on this one. Get some ex-competitor employees who have seen the successes and failures of their companies and products to advise on possible issues and then research and plan accordingly.

We are told, and often, that Japanese players don't whine or ***** about the game. That getting feedback from them is difficult due to some sense of not wanting to offend, complain, etc. I get that, its a culture thing. NA on the other hand, we let it fly. We are the far opposite as well, going too far. Rants become fodder for the trolls and not all of us have leveled enough to take down trolls I honestly don't doubt that sometimes, SE doesn't know. They just don't know. Call it a lack of finger on the pulse in NA, or the inherit issues with translation (Eng to J isn't an easy one.... {party}{can i have it}{please} ... ).

I'm done now, you are all saved my ramblings as the Patcher just finished

You do realize it's about as easy for them to make keys, as it is for me to make this post.

I'm really at a loss for words at the stupidity in a move like this. This is opening old wounds from XI that I was trying to forget and give SE a second chance.

Sorry if I sort of derailed this thread earlier. I didn't mean to sound like ffxiv would not be a great solid game in the end. By the time the 22nd comes around everything will meld together and we will be good to go. Truvy said it best

In the end I hope they go the route of Community reps the way some other games have. For all the problems that Aion has had and is still having there cm's are on the ball most of the time. Same thing goes for Warcraft and Starcraft. If there are mega problems you at least get the standard copy paste. In the end it leaves the community with a fealing of someone somewhere is at least responding. Someone needs to teach there twitter team "Its fubar working on issues. Keep following for updates" ROFL

*edit* ok so they did 3 hours ago while I was in class. Would have been nicer if it was a tad more timely. It sends you to support site that says the following
    Server Maintenance
2010/09/02 07:50 from FINAL FANTASY XIV
All Worlds Emergency Maintenance: Follow-upDuring this maintenance, the Official FINAL FANTASY XIV Players’ Site will be unavailable for use.

I'm not sure if the people that were unable to obtain open beta keys were able to log in to the beta test site or not, but if the case is that you are not able to, here are the updates thus far:

Regarding a Character Creation Error on FINAL FANTASY XIV (09/02/10 02:17 AM)

We have confirmed an issue where even though the registration of service account for FINAL FANTASY XIV has been properly done on Square Enix Account Management System, an error message saying "50002 The proper options must be added to a FINAL FANTASY XIV service account before a character can be created." may appear and unable to create a new character during the creation of a new character.

Investigation and recovery work is currently underway, but we ask for your patience as this matter is resolved.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Square Enix Account Management System Congestion: Follow-up (09/02/10 2:33 AM)

We would like to take this opportunity to provide an update regarding the congestion of the Square Enix Account Management System.

Due to heavy server traffic, we are continuing to experience Square Enix Account Management System congestion. Currently, players may not be able to log into the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, or acquire registration codes for the game.

Our technical staff is monitoring the situation closely and working to resolve this issue. As a countermeasure to the congestion, we are currently limiting the acquisition of registration codes for the Open Beta Test. If you cannot acquire a registration code, or if you are unable to access the Square Enix Account Management System, we ask that you please wait and try again later.

    We apologize for any inconvenience.

FINAL FANTASY XIV Login Difficulties (Sep. 2) (09/02/10 8:53 AM)

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties where users may not be able to log into the game once the number of connections reaches to a certain number below the intented login limit. The issue is currently being addressed, and new updates will follow as additional information becomes available.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

    [Date & Time]
    From Sep. 2, 2010 3:00 (PDT)

    [Details]
    - Unable to log in in case the number of connections reaches to a certain number below the intented login

    [Affected Service]
    - FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test

Regarding the Announcement and Download of Client Software (09/02/10 8:59 AM)

Currently, we are experiencing an issue where FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Site may become unavailable due to congestion caused by heavy server traffic.
Considering the matter, announcements on FINAL FANTASY XIV will also be posted on Square Enix Support Center.

And due to above reason, please download the client software's installer from the following URL.

    http://wdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/dow...ffxivsetup.exe

We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing and thank you for your understanding.

All Worlds Emergency Maintenance (Sep. 2) (09/02/10 09:03 AM)

On Sep. 2, 2010 at 7:00 (PDT), we will be performing emergency maintenance on all Worlds. During this maintenance period, FINAL FANTASY XIV will be unavailable.
    * The Beta Test Site will continue to be available during maintenance.

Please click here for more details.

Version Update Difficulties (Sep. 2) (09/02/10 09:07 AM)

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties where the version update will not download any further than a certain point. Investigation and recovery work is currently underway, but we ask for your patience as this matter is resolved.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thanks for the update! I can confirm for those of us who did not get a beta key to re-register we are not able to acces the beta site. Even though I was in a previous beta it will not let me log onto the beta site at all.
