Square Enix have posted their somewhat lofty recommended system requirements on the FFXIV official website. The recommended requirements are as follows:

    OS: Windows 7 32bit/64bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 (2.66 GHz) or faster
    Memory: 4 GB or more
Storage: Install: 15 GB or more/Download: 6 GB or more
Video: NVidia GeForce GTX 460 with 768 MB Vram or equivalent
Sound: DirectSound compatible sound card (DirectX 9.0c or higher)
    Internet: Broadband
    Resolution: 1280x720 or higher; 32bit
    DirectX: DirectX 9.0c
    Controls: Mouse, keyboard or gamepad

The system requirements are only meant to provide a general idea regarding how one's system should be able to handle Square Enix's recommended in-game settings, which can also be viewed below:

Window Size and Display: 1280x720 (Windowed)
    Ambient Occlusion: Off
    Depth of Field: On
    Shadow Detail: Standard
    Multisampling: 4x MSAA
    Buffer Size: Window size
    Texture Quality: High
    Texture Filtering: High

Some brief research using aggregate benchmark scores shows that Square Enix's recommended setup, running at stock speeds, should net around a 2000 to 3000 benchmark score on high, 4000 to 5000 on low, and costs roughly $800 to purchase. Keep in mind that the above system requirements are not the minimum ones that have already been provided by Square Enix (see: here). Recommended system requirements should be considered as, or near final, and likely represent what Square Enix have evaluated as recommended after extensive internal testing under a variety of conditions.

With the official release date of Final Fantasy 14 set to September 30th, 2010, Square Enix have decided to throw in a little bonus for the early birds by giving the Collector's Edition preorders an eight days head start.

In addition, the preorders will also receive an Onion Helm for Collector's Edition and Garlond Goggles for the Standard Edition.

The Onion Helm quickens recovery following KO, while Garlond Goggles increases the speed of skill progression.

From a speculative standpoint, the Goggles offer a much better long term value in comparison to just faster KO recovery. If there isn't any items that offer a similar effect to the Garlond Goggles, the Collector's Edition isn't looking too hot in terms of just in-game value.

However, the eight days head start advantage can not be over looked. So if you're hardcore enough to put in many hours of play time in the first eight days, then even with the item bonus disadvantage, it will still be more than worth it to preorder the Collector's Edition of Final Fantasy XIV.
