Reading the forums it seems like we have some common install issues. I wanted to try to gather the info together in a simple post that would be easier to find then attempting to search. I will try to keep this up to date as I find them. Feel free to copy this or merge it into another post.

For Windows Vista or 7 you need to install the game as Administrator. Right click the installer icon and choose Run as Administrator.
Before installing FFXIV Retail Version first completely uninstall any beta versions that may currently be on your computer. Do not attempt to just simply delete the beta folders.. Go to Control Panel >Programs >Programs and Features >Uninstall a Program.
Before instillation temporarily disable any Anti-Virus or Internet Security Software until after then instillation has finished.
If you own an Alienware computer customized windows themes can cause the game patcher to stop responding. Uninstalling AlienGUIse should fix this issue.
Game updates are downloaded via Peer-to-Peer on networks which support UPnP, and UPnP settings will be required. UPnP is enabled under Windows 7 default settings. Unless you have previously changed these settings, no setup is required.

Issue:
"FINAL FANTASY XIV Version has stopped working "
Fix:
This could be a wide variety of issues. This most commonly happens when windows updates or video driver updates are missing.
Start > Control Panel >System and Security >Windows update
Direct X: Microsoft DirectX
Nvidia: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
ATI: Downloads
Issue:
Component: NewComponent2
File: E:\data\data2.cab
error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)
Fix:
Typically this error occurs when you have a badly damaged and scratched disk. In this case FFXIV is a duel layer disk. Most older dives just can not read this new type of disc. First check for a firmware update for your DVD-CD drive. If you simply can not get it to install you can either try to get somoene to re image the disk onto 2 disks your drive will read or install on another computer and copy the program from there. You can also do an ISO virtual disk image but I would only advise this if you are an advance computer user.
Issue:
Please install windows vista service pack 2 before proceeding.
Fix:
1. Browse to the DVD in Windows Explorer
2. Right click ffxivsetup.exe and click Properties
3. On the Compatibility tab, uncheck "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" (if you can't uncheck it, you probably need to click "Change settings for all users" at the bottom of the same dialog)
4. Reinstall normally
Issue:
Windows XP 64 bit. Installer stops saying it does not have hard drive space even if it does or FINAL FANTASY XIV has stopped working.
Fix:
XP 64 is not being supported. Microsoft did not make a service pack 3 for 64-bit, only 32-bit. Microsoft 64-bit doesn't need SP3 fixes. That is where the problem lies. FFXIV according to SE will not be supported for XP 64-bit since they require SP3. My only suggestion is possibly installing on another partition on the drive and then moving the files over. I am not very technical so other then that I don't have an answer for this one.
Issue:
After Square Enix splash screen and ping screen goes black and game seems to freeze.
Fix: (Thanks to RedHobbit on Zam forums)
On Windows 7 64-bit (and maybe other versions), if you have IE's security setting for the Internet zone set to high, the login page will fail to load in FFXIV. It doesn't matter what your default browser is, FFXIV always uses IE.
To fix this, you have 2 options:
1) Add the square enix sites to the trusted site zone
To do this, open IE and double click on the status bar on the bottom that should say something like "Internet | Protected Mode: On". This will bring up a dialog title Internet security. Click on the trusted sites zone. Make sure the slider is set to medium-high or lower and click Apply if you needed to change it. Click on the "Sites" button. A dialog will pop up titled "Trusted Sites". Uncheck the "Require server verification (httpsfor all sites in this zone" check box. Edit the entry field labeled "Add this website to the zone" to say "square-enix.com" then click on the add button. It should show up in the list below.
2) Change the security setting for the Internet zone to medium-high or lower (not recommended)
To do this, open IE and double click on the status bar on the bottom that should say something like "Internet | Protected Mode: On". This will bring up a dialog title Internet security. Click on the internet zone and change the setting to medium-high or lower on the slider and click OK or Apply.

for all sites in this zone" check box. Edit the entry field labeled "Add this website to the zone" to say "square-enix.com" then click on the add button. It should show up in the list below.
