Thread: Guides and Videos, first Origin contest! (9/23/10 - 10/14/10)

In commemoration of the FFXIV Prerelease, we are going to be simultaneously running 2 contests at once. The first contest is for Guides, and the second is for Videos. These contests begin on 9/23/10 (today), and end on 10/14/10, giving you three weeks to pump out some quality material.

There are going to be 3 winners in each contest, to be determined by the FFXIV Origin Staff. These contests are open to all FFXIV Origin Members, and yes, you are more than welcome to participate in both the Guides and Videos contest with multiple entries. Only catch: you may only win once per person.

FFXIV Origin Guide Contest

Prizes

The top 3 guide writers will be awarded some awesome prizes for their efforts, while the 4th place finisher will receive a cool consolation prize.

1st Place: 1 year of FREE Final Fantasy XIV ($160 Ultimate Game Card)*
2nd Place: 6 months of FREE Final Fantasy XIV ($80 Ultimate Game Card)*
3rd Place: 3 months of FREE Final Fantasy XIV ($40 Ultimate Game Card)*
4th Place: 12” Cactuar Plushie

Criteria

We are calling on all skilled scribes to show us their best work with the guides contest. The following criteria will help the FFXIV Origin Staff determine the winners.

• Usefulness
• Originality
• Creativity
• Organization
• Entertainment Value

How to Submit your Guides

All guides must be submitted in the 'Guides' Forums, with [Contest] preceding the name of the guide. For example, your submission might look something like this on the threads tab:

Good submissions will be imported over to the Guides Section for all to see. While you do have 3 weeks, I highly recommend participants don't procrastinate in making their guides. The earlier you post , the better; not only will you have more access to user feedback before making a final edit, but someone else may come up with your idea if you wait to long. You have 3 whole weeks to make something great, so try not to wait until the very last minute!

Rules

Before you get to making an awesome guide, let's go over the basic ground rules.

• Guides must be submitted by 10/14/10, 11:59 PM PST.
• Plagiarism is not allowed, and will result in immediate disqualification.
• Guides cannot be re-posted from another site. Anybody who submits pre-existing guides will have to bow out of the competition.
• Winners will be determined by the FFXIV Origin Staff.
• In the event of a tie, the FFXIV Origin Community will determine the winner. Between now and the end of the contest, community members are welcome give us their input by clicking 'Thank You' on the submissions they like. The most thanked person will win the tie-breaker.
• Have fun, we all look forward to reading your submissions.

If you have awesome video editing skills, then please, by all means put them to use in our contest. We are going to use the following criteria to determine the winners of the Video Competition.

Submitting your Videos

All videos must be submitted in the 'Final Media Fantasy' Forums, with [Contest] preceding video's name. Once that has been completed, please provide a YouTube embed on your post, so it can be watched straight from the forums. Afterward, follow it up with some text you find relevant to the video.

All good submissions will be fully immortalized in our Videos Section for all to see. I know how long it takes to make a great video, so don't wait too long before making it. You have 3 whole weeks to make something great, so try not to wait until the very last minute! Your videos can be about anything, and contain any gameplay and/or custom footage.

Some may be similar to Calabazal's Gridania Walkthrough, while others will contain more custom footage, as seen in Understanding the Fatigue System.

• Videos cannot be re-posted from another site. Anybody who submits videos that already exist on another site won't be eligible to win.
• Winners will be determined by the FFXIV Origin Staff.
• In the event of a tie, the FFXIV Origin Community will determine the winner. Between now and the end of the contest, community members are welcome give us their input by clicking 'Thank You' on their favorite video submissions. The most thanked person will win the tie-breaker. Anybody caught trying to manipulate the results will be forced to resign from the competition.

*Note on Prize Redeemption*
Ultimate Game Cards can be redeemed for Playspan Points, which can be redeemed for Square Enix's Crysta Points, which can be used to pay for FFXIV subscription. (Confusing?)
