Today is a day for all lore seekers to rejoice. Our lore translation team has finally finished deciphering more FFXIV lore into English for your reading enjoyment! Now that you know about FFXIV Origins, we are now going to bring you the Eorzean city-state of Limsa Lominsa.
Overview
On the southern coast of Vulbrand lies the marine city-state of Limsa Lominsa. Believed to be blessed by the goddess of navigation, Llymlaen, Limsa Lominsa is spread over many small islands, each connected by a vast network of bridges.
Being a marine city-state, Limsa Lominsa is naturally a thalassocracy (an empire at sea). Power lies primarily in the hands of the city-state's ruling Admiral. The economy is highly driven by fishing, shipbuilding, blacksmithing, but the majority of Limsa Lominsa's wealth comes from it's world-famous shipping industry.
In order to ensure safety out at sea, Limsa Lominsa employs a powerful navy known as the 'Knights of the Barracuda.' While these knights have made Limsa Lominsa considerably safer, the location makes this city-state quite vulnerable. Pirates are never far away, and it is advised adventurers be cautious when venturing out at sea.
Landmarks
Mizzenmast - Built around the once great Galadion battleship, the Mizzenmast is perhaps Limsa Liminsa's most known landmark.
The bottom level is comprised of a heavily fortified citadel, ready to withstand even the deadliest of pirate invasions. On the middle levels, adventurers can find busy pubs and inns safe from all pirate activity. On the upper levels can be found the offices of Limsa Lominsa's highest ranking public officials, including that of the Admiral.
On the very top of the tower is an airship for all adventurers, recommended for usage in the unlikely event you arrive during pirate activity.
The Octant - Named after the nautical instrument invented by Jovanni Gnonno, the Octant is located at the foot of the Mizzenmast.
During the day, the plaza is full of the finest entertainment Limsa Lominsa has to offer. Come nightfall, the soft light of the moon makes the Octant a prime location for starstruck lovers to sit back and gaze at the universe.
Pharos Polaris - Constructed from white chalk exclusively from Limsa Lominsa's surrounding cliffs, this magnificent lighthouse serves as a beacon for all sailors braving the surrounding waters.
The blue light emanating from the spire is one of Limsa Lominsa's greatest mysteries. Some people believe it comes from the mouth of an arcane bomb, so consumed with anger it never fails to illuminate the nearby waters. Others believe the lighthouse keeps are skilled mages who capture the sun's rays by day, only to make it shine again come nightfall.
Hawkers' Alley - Situated amidst the aromas of smoke and spice, merchants from Eorzea and beyond can be found right here. Selling their wares to all interested parties, they provide a constant lifeline for hailing from the faraway lands of Gridania and Ul'Dah.
On several of the lesser islands, an one can find the guilds and workshops of Limsa Lominsa's finest craftsmen. It is here that many adventurers will set up their retainers, who can in turn sell their crafting wares and loot obtained via Eorzean conquests.
That is all for now lore seekers, thank you coming on this literary journey of Limsa Lominsa. As always, our Translation team is hard at work on their next piece of FFXIV lore. See you next time!
