  • Battle Regimens and Incapacitation in FF14

Earlier today, Square Enix released some very important information concerning Battle Regiments via the Lodestone. I know a lot of people are confused when it comes to these, and highly suggest you take the time to read this invaluable information. A lot of you probably know everything about Battle Regimens ever since SE's Prerelease FAQ. Incapacitation, on the other hand, should be something entirely new.

    Battle Regimens

Battle Regimens are combat tactics which party members may employ against a single enemy. By coordinating and executing battle commands in a precise order, players may cause certain additional beneficial effects to occur. A Battle Regimen begins with the stacking of battle commands. All party members who wish to take part in the Battle Regimen must stack their actions in the correct order against the desired target. One of the members then initiates the Battle Regimen, and the stacked actions will be executed automatically.

    Executing a Battle Regimen

Seeing as lots of people are having trouble getting Battle Regimens to work, SE has officially released the exact way to execute one.
    1. Consult with other party members to determine the best Battle Regimen to use against a specific target. The battle commands and the order in which they are to be executed should all be decided.

    2. Wait until your position in the queue comes around to switch to Battle Regimen mode and select the battle command you wish to stack.
    * One party member cannot perform more than one action during a Battle Regimen.

    3. After all participating party members have stacked their battle commands, one of the party members selects to initiate the Battle Regimen.

    4. Once the Battle Regimen is initiated, the stacked battle commands will all be executed automatically, chaining together to create additional effects.
    * Please note that factors such as distance from the enemy may prevent stacked battle commands from being executed once the Battle Regimen is initiated. In these cases, the Battle Regimen will not end, but will instead proceed on to the next command in the queue.

If you would like to use a Battle Regimen, use the following macro, with your ability name written in case sensitive lettering.

    /br on
    /ac "Ability"<t>

    Additional Effects

The additional effects produced by successfully executed Battle Regimens, and the combinations that yield them, are listed below.

    Damage to Body Parts

Among the enemies found throughout Eorzea, there are those with body parts susceptible to damage. Sustaining a certain amount of damage will result in those body parts becoming incapacitated. For example, an aldgoat’s horns may be broken, or a diremite’s stinger lopped off. This is achieved through the use of specific weaponskills that automatically target these body parts whenever they are present. When the body part of an enemy is incapacitated, it will suffer the following effects:
    • Weaken the monster
    • Prevent the monster from using its special attacks
    • Influence the type of loot dropped
    1. Incapacitating Weaponskills

That's all for now, I will have a Battle Regimen video up very soon, so check back soon!

I will most definitely star using BR. Need to find a few good buddies and test it out.

BR's are definitely gonna be the way to go at higher ranks. For now, we aren't punished for spamming abilities in parties, but I'm sure that is going to change very soon. SE always loves to give players a challenge, and using certain BR's in certain boss encounters will really add more excitement to PvE.

hmm wonder if there's bonus skill/xp rewarded for them, or increased chance of them proc'ing skill.

In the small tests I've done with a few groups, it seems that you're more likely to get skill ups. Don't quote me though.

When me and Gyp did some testing on this, it seems to suffer from painful execution flaws. Even when your positioning is fine, no actions are on an animation cooldown, and your are facing the target... the BR fails.

It did "appear" that you both get better job skill points out of it, but that might just have been the elation that the think actually worked.

I have tried time and again taking advice from multiple sources on how BR's work. I have never been able to get it to work properly. Before you tell me I'm doing it wrong, I've read how to do it, it's set up properly, and you get the cool spinning red lines, but all the abilities in the BR set don't go off by themselves most of the time, and when they do, we don't get any special effects.

There's a lot of bugs with it, and they need to get fixed soon. It's very frustrating.

Very useful information! Although I haven't had a chance to experience battle regimens just yet, this is definitely a guide I'm sure I'll need!
