Welp. I'm convinced. lol.

OTP is the same methodology used to secure major trading events on Wall Street; now, obviously, there are variances in the level of security offered based on the number of digits and the number of "good" codes, but it's still a fairly robust system.
I would argue that online gaming is a huge business and, thus, a huge target for hackers. The extra security of the token (or "Authenticator" in WoW) is more than worth it, especially if you're getting it for free (I got my WoW ones from Blizzcon events). It's a simple fact that these systems - even as managed by the gaming companies - periodically get breached, and your information is likely to be exposed at some point. Having the OTP token makes it a hacked username/password almost completely useless to the hacker, and keeps your account secure.
And yeah, I personally know hundreds of people who got hacked in WoW at various points; none of them had Authenticators. Like Kyrie, it's the deciding reason I bought the CE. I keep my Blizzard one on my keychain, and this one'll be right next to it.
We've used our since they came out in XI, they are super nice actually...no real risk of hacks. Period. Yeah, downside is every flippin login screen SE has for members, accounts etc, requires it, but i'll deal with that for a little piece of mind.
It really is quite a marvelous little tool. I have one for my battle.net account, thats Blizzard games like WoW and Starcraft 2 for the late person. Its very simple and easy to use. The hardest part about it is the 60 sec it takes to set up after that everytime you log in to anything associated with battle.net you use your regular password with your log-in name and then just push the button on the security token for a one time use only numbered password that becomes invalid a few seconds later. Hacking MMO accounts has not just become a popular thing among phishers/hackers but a guarantee. If they want your password and info they will get it. Before I got my security token for battle.net I was hacked three times, twice within 5 hours!! Don't ask me how they managed that one, because Norton 360 said my system was clean of keyloggers etc. The sad part is that my WoW account was not even active, I was playing starcraft 2 when they got me and they added time to my WoW account just to get to my character and gold. So in my opinion if you dont have the security token please get one because I would hate for a fellow site member to get hacked, it totally sucks.
Security Tokens are very easy to use and make you hack proof unless someone gets ahold of your security token.

Well, I will use it although it makes me sad. When I last played FFXI hacking was not yet a huge issue and it was long before any security tokens were announced. I know a lot of changes happened but I didn't know about security tokens at all.
It is terrible that the world has come to a point where people will not only try to steal your real identity and money but your pretend identity and money....
Yeah this is not as big a hassle as some of you believe it to be. And it's worth it.
I started WoW when a friend quit, he gave me his account. Fast forward 4 years and my account gets hacked. Now I can't get that account back because it wasn't under my name, and I completely lost contact with this friend (a shame in it's own right). So I had to straight up start from scratch, when I was finally ready to start playing again. Lost an awesome PvP Healadin /heavysigh
Get a token, superglue it to your desk or monitor or whatever and never worry about this happening to you.
Domestic box office for movies released in 2009 was in the neighborhood of $15 billion; the video game industry had a domestic revenue of over $19 billion. World of Warcraft alone takes in somewhere in the neighborhood of $100-150 million a month.
You have my permission to turn to anyone who looks at you oddly for playing a video game and say, "Video games are a larger market than movies. It's not my fault you're a luddite."
Yeah my thoughts exactly, same reason I bought the CE save me the hassle of ordering it.
Except for me, it was my FFXI character that got hacked through a flash vulnerability on FFXIAH (a banner ad), before that I never thought it could happen to me.
I lost my level 75 MNK that I'd earned practically every piece of gear on myself (okote, fumas, juju gi, brown belt, cross-counters, PCC. My friends even saw it happening but I was at work so could do nothing about it. Before I knew it my character was moved to another server and everything of value was lost.
I tried to start again, but just didn't have the heart left for it after 2 years of hard work and after attempting to deal with PoL (they basically want everything short of blood samples to prove your you, even after the hacker had changed my address to 1113 new york street, new york).
Anything I can do now to avoid such circumstances I do now, but the one solace is that if RMT are resorting to such underhanded tactics, they're getting very desperate.
Take it from me guys, even if you got the regular edition pay whatever and get the token from square it's more than worth it if for nothing else than a little more piece of mind.
EDIT: BTW it was like 4 months before they started offering the tokens that I got hacked, on my birthday that year no less, lucky me eh?
I think its a great idea however it is risky as it may break and you will get logged out of your account however I did get one with the collectors edition and have put it to use with hesitation. I know this 99.9% guarentees your account wont get hacked which is awesome and I am relived. I now treat my security token as if its something realy important, it gos everywhere with me (I even take it to the bathroom and hold it when im sleeping) so I dont loose it.
Wishes can come true but not if we just wait for miracles, miracles are things we make for ourselves.
From my experience it's pretty sturdy I just leave it next to my computer and I'm still using the one that I got for FFXI when they added them. There's suppose to be a low battery on it when it runs low so you can switch it before it dies but the battery in my old one is still ok so I haven't seen it for myself. It's suppose to be tamper proof so I wouldn't mess with it and try to crack it open.
If it dies before you switched it out you will get locked out of your account and will have to contact customer support to get back in. Even still I know a lot of people that get hacked without it and I've never heard of anyone getting hacked with it so better safe than sorry I'd say.

I still have mine from when it first came out on FFXI and it works fine too. No low battery issues yet. *fingers crossed*
